Spencer Gets Top-10 At Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 3, 2002) -- The Target Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer finished 10th in the UAW-DaimlerChrysler at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Spencer is currently 30th in NASCAR Winston Cup championship points.

The Target Dodge started in fourth position and Spencer moved up through the top-5 to take the lead on lap 18. Spencer went to go on to lead 45 laps of the 267-lap event. Unfortunately, the Target Dodge became tight and fell back a few spots. Spencer raced in the top-10 all day and eventually took the checkered flag in 10th place.

"We had a really good car today, but the track really got tight for us," Spencer said. "We could never get the balance back after that first run. The guys did good today in the pits. The motor was great and the car was prepared great. Top-10 in the third race with a new team, that ain't too bad.

"I knew Sterling (Marlin) had the car to beat after the race went on. His car had good balance and a lot of grip, and it stayed with him all day. That's what you need. When the balance goes away, you usually have a little something wrong with the front shocks or the rear shocks. I'm just glad Sterling won that thing."

Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the MBNA America 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 10, 2002.
