Larry McClure quotes on finding the right driver for the Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo and Morgan-McClure Motorsports.

"It's a big decision for me, and I want to make the right decision for this race team. It's just taking time. I know exactly where I am, and I know where I want to go. I know how I'm going to get there. The driver is the big key to anybody's success up and down here. There are drivers available that can get the job done. I've just got to make sure I get the right one. "If we didn't have anything to do it'd be boring as hell. It's not bad. I don't have any stress. Actually, I'm just trying to make the right decision and before I can make that decision some things have to come together. When I get really, really close, then I'll bring my sponsors in and run it by them. That's all the sponsors, Chevrolet, Kodak, Forward Air. The responsibility is big because it involves so many people and it impacts several corporate people. I just want to make sure I do the right thing, and I'm not pushed because I know that this is the best opportunity for any race car driver that wants to win races right here at the 4 car. That's why I'm not pushing it. They could say 'well, kiss off or whatever,' that's OK. I know this is a big opportunity and when I give it to a guy there'll be no strings attached except we're going to win races. The good thing that's come out of us not running good is that this team has gotten a lot better. We've gone through the down times, we've gained horsepower, we've gained a tremendous amount on the race cars as far as aerodynamics are concerned at the speedways and the downforce race tracks. The pit crew has gained about four seconds this year. We can be real consistent. I've just got to get the best guy for the job. You've got to have a fast race car driver because you're racing out here and that's part of the business. "I think these people on the list are quite capable. When I got Ernie (Irvan), he'd never won a race. I saw the talent and the desire and I thought he had what it took. That was a good decision. Then there was Sterling. He had run, what, 300 races and never won. The first race out he won. He won two Daytona 500s and Darlington, and he won Talladega. Bobby won Martinsville for us. There's more competition now. You've just got to make sure you cross your T's and dot your I's. Everything is so much more critical. "I know my race team is as good as Joe Gibbs' race team. That's saying a whole lot, but you've got to have every part of it plugged in before you can be successful. We have won races. We have not forgotten how to win races. We've got a great organization. We've got a great facility. We've got a lot of smart people working for us. I think I can win the race tomorrow. We qualified 35th, but I think we can win the race tomorrow. I think Bobby Hamilton can win the race tomorrow. That remains to be seen, but I know whoever I put in this car has got to be on the top of his game. "If I'm sure I'm making the right decision, the quicker I make it, the better I'm going to be. I'm not stringing anybody along. I thought things would happen a little quicker, but they haven't. It's not a push for me. I know right now if I had to make it today, I could make it. If I had to make it next week, I could make it. I'm just waiting to make sure it's the right one."
