Kvapil battles to a top-20 finish at Pocono Raceway

Kvapil fought back from being a lap down to bring home the team's first top-20 finish of the season.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 10, 2013) - Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team finished in the 20th position on Sunday afternoon at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

During a rainy weekend in the northeast with first practice and qualifying cancelled at the 2.5-mile speedway, competitors in the Sprint Cup Series had a limited amount of time to dial in their cars for Sunday's Party in the Pocono's 400 presented by Walmart. The field was set according to the NASCAR rulebook, and competitors had just two practice sessions on Saturday morning to get ready for Sunday's race.

Despite picking up nearly one second during the practice sessions and ranking 21st in final practice, Kvapil and the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper team would have their work cut out for them on Sunday afternoon as they started the race deep in the field in the 39th position. Track position is always important at the track commonly known as "The Tricky Triangle," and Kvapil knew this race would be no different. The BK Racing team fought a tight-handling car all day, but worked diligently each pit stop to improve their Camry.

A relatively clean race early became a bit wild near the finish with the caution flag being displayed four times in the final 30 laps. After losing a lap earlier in the event, Kvapil returned to the lead lap of competition when he earned his lap back during the lap 134 caution. With a fast car and back in a position to move through the field, Kvapil raced from 30th to 20th in the final 30 laps to earn the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team's first top-20 finish of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

"I'm really happy with our run today for the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota team," commented Kvapil. "Our Toyota Camry was just a little too tight, but the guys did a great job working on it throughout the day and getting us in a position where I could pick up several positions late in the race. I felt like this weekend was a good rebound from our last couple races; I'm really excited to get to Michigan International Speedway next weekend."
