KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger)

NOTE: Kahne leads the circuit with five victories in 2006 and this is his circuit-tying fifth pole. He's tied with Kurt Busch for the most poles. Each of Kahne's victories has been in the same Dodge Charger, and it's the Charger he's racing at Kansas Speedway. This is the fourth pole for this particular chassis in 2006.

"I feel like I got just about everything out of it. I feel like I could have used more race track off turn four, but it was turning so good you didn't really have to. The reason I wasn't turning sharper was because the back was sliding, too. It was good. The whole race car was in the track and it was really fast. This car is five for seven. We haven't talked about naming it. We're going to leave it just like it is and maybe when the season is over we'll name it. I think we all unloaded with the same setups today. Me, Elliott and Scott all threw the same setup at it. Kenny Francis has been working on my car and got it really dialed in. We're similar with setups and driving styles right now. When you've got good cars and engines like we've got it easy to go fast for one lap.

"We're in the Busch race tomorrow, and it would make you feel good if you could win it. I like racing Kansas. It's fun, but it won't hurt our performance on Sunday. I always feel good about Sunday. This is where we've been our best this year. It was just a good lap. Our Dodge Charger felt great in practice, and Kenny (team director Francis) made a small change before qualifying to help the car from where we were in practice. I knew Scott was going to be tough at the end. I think the track was equal for everybody today. That makes for good qualifying. I don't think the draw hurt anybody today, maybe the first couple of cars, but other than that it's probably the closest it's been for awhile from start to finish."

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR ATTITUDE BETWEEN DOVER AND NOW?

"Sunday I had just hit another car. I was devastated. Today I've been able to think about it for a week. Things change. You look at the points and there's definitely a chance. Jimmie Johnson came from a bunch of points down in '04 to just about win the championship. It's something that can be done. It's going to be tough to be done, but it's possible if all the teams have hard luck. You never know what's going to happen."

WHAT'S THE RECORD FOR THIS CHARGER?

"This car is five for seven. It's won every race I've won this year. It finished fourth at Michigan and 23rd at Chicago. It's a great racecar. Can we win on Sunday? I hope so. Everybody out there is going to be going for it. The competition is going to be tough. Hopefully we can put ourselves in the right position to make adjustments throughout the race and at least have a shot late in the race."
