Race recap: In a race slowed by two red flag delays due to rain, Greg Biffle won the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. Because of the combined three hours of stoppages, the event was actually shortened by 57 laps due to darkness.
Biffle led just once on the day, but it covered the final 37 laps of the 210-lap race, which ended under caution. Overall there were 16 lead changes among 10 drivers, with Kurt Busch leading the most laps with 76. The race had 12 caution flags -- which included the two red-flag delays -- for a total of 72 laps.
The Kansas race marked the third event in NASCAR's 10-race Chase for the Championship playoff format. Jimmie Johnson, who finished second in the race, took over the championship lead from teammate Jeff Gordon (-6 points) and Clint Bowyer (-14). The race resumes at Talladega Superspeedway next Sunday.
Goodyear quote -- Phil Holmer, sales manager, NASCAR racing: "We had a great setup for Kansas, with tires providing consistent performance throughout the long runs and giving up just enough to make for some great side-by-side racing at the mile-and-a-half speedway. In fact, the ABC television commentators mentioned how good a match the tires were for this track on their broadcast. Overall it was a great weekend."
Companion event: Kyle Busch led the final 17 laps to win the NASCAR Busch Series race at Kansas on Saturday. After the race, however, it was found that Busch's team ran an illegal intake manifold in the race, though no penalties were announced. Carl Edwards leads the championship standings by 696 points over David Reutimann.
