On Kansas Speedway:
Winning at Chicago (on July 9) went a long way in improving my optimism on these flat one-and-a-half mile tracks. Before that, I really didn't look forward to 'em because we struggled so bad. But the results at Chicago prove we've come a long way in our intermediate speedway program, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do at Kansas. It's a pretty cool track. On a map, the two tracks look almost identical, but I've always said the Kansas track was designed much smarter because the transitions on and off the corners are much better. It's a difference you can't see on TV, but inside the racecar it's a big difference.
On finishing in the top-10 last time at Kansas:
'I believe there was a little tire strategy thrown into that mix. We took two tires on our last stop when a lot of people took four. My car worked really well on the top, which was nice because the times before it seemed like there was only one groove. As the track ages, the groove gets wider. If we can get that top line working again, it ought to be pretty exciting. You obviously have to have a lot of grip and a good-handling car if you're going to have anything for 'em. We're taking a brand new car, and we'll try to forget about being taken out so early at Talladega with a car that was easily taking me right to the front.'
BUDWEISER QUICK NOTES: Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the #8 Budweiser race team enter the Kansas race weekend 18th in the Nextel Cup point standings. In 2005, Dale Jr. has one win (Chicagoland Speedway), six top-fives and 11 top-10s in 29 starts.
KANSAS TIDBITS: Dale Jr. has three top-10 starts and two top-10 finishes in four races at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway. Junior's best finish, a sixth in 2002, was the end result of a weekend that began with his sixth career Bud Pole Award. Dale Jr. has led laps in three of four races at Kansas for a total of 22 laps.
