"I am looking forward to getting the chance to run the whole race this year.
We only got 60 something laps until we got wrecked from behind. I hope we
can finally finish a race without things happening that we can't control.
Last week made two races in a row that we got wrecked. Hopefully, this week
things can turn around for the CAT team.
Ward Burton, driver of the Caterpillar Racing Dodge
BALDWIN ON THE TEST AT KANSAS:
"I feel like we had very successful tests at Charlotte and at Kansas City over the past few weeks. We tested the same car at both tracks and tried several different set ups for qualifying and racing conditions. I believe we can have a good run this week in Kansas. We just need to keep digging and making progress with our program. I feel very confident with the way the team has been running lately. The only frustrating part about it is we don't have any finishes to show for it. We ran extremely well at New Hampshire and got into a situation that ruined our day and then we had a car that was going to be just fine last Sunday, but Jerry (Nadeau) collected us when he bounced off the turn four wall. If we can keep those things from happening this week, we should be just fine.
"Ward seems to really like the Kansas track. The more he ran during our test, the more he felt comfortable on the track. I believe there should be some good racing this weekend and definitely some room to pass in the outside groove."
TEAM NEWS * The Caterpillar Racing team tested at Talladega this week in preparation for next weekend's EA Sports 500. Burton has one restrictor-plate victory this season, the Daytona 500, but had to leave that car at Daytona USA until February 2003. The team is still searching for that perfect speedway car. They have tried to replicate that car numerous times, but the replicas never seem to be as good as the real thing. They're hoping that they can use this test to help make it stronger.
* Burton will sign autographs at Motorsports Marketing, Grandview, MO on Friday, September 27 from 6-8PM.
The Caterpillar Racing team will compete with the same car that they tested at Charlotte and Kansas this month. It is car #66 and it hasn't competed anywhere yet.
