ISC announces exclusive deal with Kansas City

International Speedway Corporation (ISC) announced Wednesday it has entered into a 60-day "exclusive negotiating period" with the city of Kansas City, Kan., for the purpose of developing a multi-million dollar motorsports facility in the city.

An ISC spokesman said initial projections for the facility called for a 1.5-mile oval with "approximately 75,000 seats initially, with the ability to ramp up to 150,000 in the foreseeable future." The project is tentatively scheduled to break ground in late 1997 or early '98, with an anticipated 20-month construction period.

The Kansas City track will add to the stable of facilities that ISC already controls. The organization currently owns Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Watkins Glen International, Darlington Raceway, Phoenix International Raceway and Tucson Raceway Park. It also has a partial interest in the Metro-Dade Motorsports Complex.
