Huntersville, N.C. (July 10, 2002) -- The No. 99 CITGO team heads to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend with a fresh coat of paint. The No. 99 CITGO Ford Taurus, driven by Jeff Burton, will be sporting the Bassmasters Classic paint scheme for the second annual Tropicana 400.
"I'm looking forward to Chicago this weekend," said Burton. "The CITGO car has a special paint scheme to help promote the Bassmasters Classic this weekend. It's a cool paint scheme and has a lot more yellow than the fans are used to seeing."
The CITGO Bassmasters Classic will take place in Birmingham, AL July 25-27. Burton attended the event last year, along with 20,000 fans, which jammed into the Louisiana Superdome for the annual event. This year's event features 52 of the top anglers, from around the world, who will be competing for the title of World Champion. The event will take place at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center and the weigh ins will be held at the venue's arena. The weigh ins will take place at 2:30 p.m. CDT Thursday and Friday, and 4:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
The event is free to the public and in addition to the Classic; the largest outdoor trade show in the country will be going on all three days. Over 100,000 people attended the trade show in 2001 to view the newest outdoor products in everything from fishing to hunting. Burton will be appearing at the trade show on Thursday, July 25 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the CITGO booth. Burton will be signing autographs for visitors to the CITGO Bassmasters Classic.
"I'm excited to go back to the CITGO Bassmasters Classic," said Burton. "The event is a lot of fun and since I like to fish, it's always great to see what new products are out. I'm looking forward to it."
Burton is coming off a successful run at Daytona where he ran in the top-five all night until an accident sidelined him with severe damage to the body of the car. The team hopes to continue their momentum in Chicago and put the No. 99 CITGO Ford in victory lane. The folks at B.A.S.S. hope the new paint scheme will help in the team's momentum as well, We sincerely hope the CITGO Bassmasters Classic logo and the B.A.S.S. shield contained within will serve as a good luck charm for Jeff Burton," said Dean Kessel, General Manager of B.A.S.S.
Fans can see the CITGO Bassmasters Classic paint scheme live this Sunday, July 14, at 2:30 p.m. EST on NBC. Same day coverage of the CITGO Bassmasters Classic can be seen on ESPN2 July 25 and 26 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. EST and on ESPN from 7:00-8:00 p.m. EST on June 27 (times may vary according to time zone).
