Homestead, Fla. – Jimmie Johnson did as expected on Sunday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, racing to his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship. After coming up short the last two years, Johnson renewed his lock on circuit supremacy by adding a sixth Sprint Cup trophy to his trophy case.

“I am at a loss for words, but I am so proud, and so thankful for this opportunity at Hendrick Motorsports,” said Johnson. “Thankful that Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick gave me this opportunity back in 2002. Thankful that Lowe's came on board. I want to say hi to all the employee-owners that are watching; everybody back at Hendrick Motorsports in all departments.

"This sport is about people and our people at Hendrick Motorsports, especially on this 48 car, rose up and got the job done. I am so thankful to be able to drive for this race team, and so honored and so excited to have a six-pack."

The former champion entered the season finale with a 28-point advantage and with a 23rd or better finish in the Ford EcoBoost 400; the championship was his by a margin of 19 points over Matt Kenseth.

By finishing ninth, the talented driver of the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet earned the crown and his nickname has changed from “Five Time” to “Six Pack.”

And for team owner Rick Hendrick, he earned the Sprint Cup title for the 11th time. Johnson’s triumph gives a Chevrolet racer its 29th drivers' championship. Chevrolet also gained its 37th manufacturers championship.
