Wrecking his primary car in practice Saturday, hasn't slowed down Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 Chevy team. Johnson posted the hottest lap during final practice for Nextel Cup teams at Fontana.

"It was the first lap and I ended up crashing the car unfortunately," said Johnson of Friday's incident. "The front end of the car was dragging the track really bad and literally the front wheels were off the ground. So I kept turning the steering wheel because I needed to make the corner and finally the car got off the track - I had way too much steering wheel put into it - and it rotated the car around into the fence."

Johnson's lap of 178.762 mph bested teammate Brian Vickers by .026 seconds. Vickers earned the next quickest time, with a lap of 178.647 mph.

"We have a great car," stated Vickers. "The GMAC crew did a great job."

Ryan Newman was third with a 178.235 mph; Newman starts seventh for Sunday's event. Veterans Mark Martin (178.231) and Ricky Craven (178.134) complete the top five fastest times.

Pole sitter Kasey Kahne ran only the 24th fastest lap with a time of 176.462 mph.
