CONCORD, NC - Jimmie Johnson who had to take a provisional starting spot yesterday after suffering a broken valve train turned the fastest lap in final practice posting a speed of 179.659 mph. The track qualifying record holder will start 37th.

"It' is a big deal in a lot of ways," said Johnson. "From the driver aspect, I don't think it's that big of a challenge. We need to pay more attention to the pace of the race and charging at certain times.

"But these cars are 500-mile time bombs. We're getting all the horsepower we can out of them to go 500 miles. It's the same with the components of the car. When you add an extra 100 miles on there, you're fatiguing a lot of parts. So, for sure everyone has new stuff and we hope to be in good shape."

"Happy Hour" was slowed by three separate on track incidents. First, the No. 2 Penske Dodge of Rusty Wallace lost his right side window. The second caution flag flew after Kurt Busch spun on the front straightaway. The No. 97 Roush Ford did not make contact with the wall. The third yellow of the day came out when Greg Biffle spun the No. 16 Roush Ford causing slight damage on the rear of his car.

Pole sitter Ryan Newman was second fastest with a lap of 179.456 mph. Rounding out the top five were Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart and Sterling Marlin.
