Leffler Finishes 37th In Old Dominion 500

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 15, 2001) -- The No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge R/T driven by rookie driver Jason Leffler finished 37th in the Old Dominion 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Leffler started the event in 42nd position and piloted the No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge up to 24th position by lap 75. On lap 86, Leffler was involved in an accident with John Andretti in Turn 4.

" We had a pretty good day going," said Matt Chambers, crew chief of the No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge. " We were up to 24th position when we got caught up in a wreck in the middle of Turns 3 and 4. We got a hole in the radiator after the accident and we changed radiators and went back out and finished the race."

Leffler went back out on lap 125 to finish the 500-lap event. The Cingular Wireless team made adjustments during caution periods to help Leffler move up the field and gain experience during his first Winston Cup race at Martinsville.

" The car was tight in the center and loose off," said Chambers. " We were trying to get it to turn better and still keep some forward bite in it."

The Cingular Wireless Dodge team finished in 37th place in the Old Dominion 500. Leffler remains in fifth place in Raybestos Rookie of the Year points.

Next on the schedule for the No. 01 Cingular Wireless team is the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, Oct. 21.
