CONCORD, N.C. (July 14, 2008) - While most Sprint Cup drivers this week will take time to relax after competing for 12 straight weeks, Roush Fenway Racing driver Jamie McMurray will pack up his best suit and driving gloves for a week's worth of events. McMurray will fly to Los Angeles, Calif., on Tuesday afternoon for the taping of the 2008 ESPY Awards on Wednesday evening, after being nominated for his finish in last year's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. Following a walk down the red carpet, McMurray will return to his roots - a Nationwide race in St. Louis, followed by a go-kart race in Indiana.
"This is going to be a very busy week, but certainly it's going to be a lot of fun," said McMurray. "On Tuesday, we are flying out to L.A., where we'll spend a couple days, and then it's off to practice my go-kart for a day, then fly to Gateway for the Nationwide race, and then back to Indiana for the go-kart race on Sunday."
Following the ESPY Awards on Wednesday evening, McMurray will fly to Indiana, where he will practice his go-kart during the evening practice session on Thursday. On Friday morning, McMurray will travel to St. Louis for the Nationwide race weekend.
"It's pretty cool to go back to St. Louis for the race," said McMurray. "I think it's been six years since I've raced there. This weekend, I'll be in the No. 17 CitiFinancial Ford Fusion, which has been pretty fast the last few races. I'm excited to work with the No. 17 guys again. The last time we raced together was in Fontana, where we finished sixth."
After a 200-lap race on Saturday evening in front of a hometown crowd, McMurray will return to Indiana, where he will race his go-kart on Sunday afternoon.
"It's going to be a fun, but pretty busy. I'm really looking forward to the ESPY Awards, and then a full weekend of racing. It will be fun to race in the Nationwide race on Saturday, and then be able to race my go-kart on Sunday."
