1999 Winston Cup Champion Dale Jarrett finished eighth in the Coca- Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway.

Jarrett, who participated in the Winston No Bull Challenge failed to attend a press conference related to the event that was to occur after the final Winston Cup Practice.

Jarrett's representatives reported that Dale had experienced sharp pain in his right side during the first practice session.

He reported to the Motor Racing Outreach fitness center to be fitted with a flack jacket prior to the final practice.

Jarrett felt the jacket was too restrictive and declined further use, but would seek medical advice as to the best way to deal with the injury that has been determined to be a cracked rib.

"I was going into turn three and I felt something pop", stated Jarrett

"I don't know if this is a previous injury or something from the other night". Referring to a crash sustained during his qualifying run on Thursday's Pole Night.

The injured Jarrett will continue to follow advice of his physician, however there is no indication that this will in any way affect his role as the driver of the Yates owned eighty-eight.

The team will be competing next weekend in Dover DE.
