Last month you had a good test at the Brickyard. How important is it to test at Indy?

"This race ranks right up there with the Daytona 500 and since everybody comes to Indy to test, you can't afford not to. I'm glad we came because we were able to shake down the car quite a bit. We struggled on the first day in race trim but then made some pretty big changes that got the car to run much better. I am hoping the information we gathered will work when we unload race weekend.

You experienced first-hand Indy's SAFER Barrier during the test. How impressed are you with that technology?

"Very. I took a hard hit and wasn't even sore after the fact. I applaud New Hampshire and Richmond for their willingness to implement the SAFER Barriers. More tracks need to consider them because anything that can help the driver is very much appreciated. These cars are going so fast now that it doesn't matter where you are because our entry speeds are so much faster. If something happens, it's going to hurt -- even at a track like Martinsville. If you blow a tire at Martinsville, you're basically going to hit the wall head-on because the corner is so sharp. Loudon is the same way, so, hallelujah for them and all the facilities that are trying to put them in place for us."

What do you need to run well at The Brickyard?

"It takes both corner speed and straightaway speed to run well. Many times you find yourself on that track out running somebody in the corners, but if you are not taking the straight-aways in consideration, that same person you just passed may return the favor by passing you on the straightaways. So, it takes both corner speed and straightaway speed to run well at Indy."
