Marlin Finishes 31st in Indy
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (Aug. 6, 2006)-- Sterling Marlin finished 31st in Sunday's 13th running of the Allstate 400 at The Brickyard.
Marlin started the event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway 33rd but was unable to mount a charge on the 43-car field.
"The Waste Management Chevrolet was tight all day," offered the veteran driver. "I couldn't get it to turn and the front end was sliding around. Nothing was working and we just never could get things going."
The No. 14 crew, led by crew chief Scott Eggleston, worked feverishly in the pits but was unable to find the right combination for its MB2 Chevrolet.
"We tried every possible thing we could," said Eggleston. "Nothing worked. Today just wasn't our day. It's frustrating, but we'll stay positive, go back to the shop and work hard to be better next time."
Watkin's Glen International is the next stop on the NEXTEL Cup schedule. It will be the second and final road course race of the season. The event will be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
