ON THE GOODYEAR TIRES: "It is done. They have created a great tire. It is absolutely, if anybody has an issue with tires, it is not because they are wearing out. They have done a great job. They have backed it up with testing and they have now proven it here at the race track. What I think is the most crucial is the practice that we had and I think I could have probably run all day long on one set of tires if I wanted to."
WHAT WAS YOUR LONGEST RUN TODAY? "I know that we had about 20 laps on a set of tires and there was so much left in them. Like I said, you only have so much time and you want to make adjustments, so we could have run all day on one set of tires if we wanted to, the wear is that good. The wear is only going to get better as we put rubber down on the race track which this tire does do, it is going to change the grip level and the balance, but the wear is only going to get better."
DO YOU EXPECT A LOT OF DIFFERENT TIRE STRATEGIES? "Yes. There seems to be some pretty good grip in new tires but they do go away fast as far as the grip level. I think that the wear is good enough to where definitely guys could take some risks on track position being more key than fresher tires."
YOU HAVE BEEN SO CONFIDENT SINCE THE TEST, WAS THAT ENOUGH FOR YOU? "At those conditions during the test, I knew we were in great shape. You always wonder if it rains and the rubber gets washed away, what is going to happen. To me the first sign was the first run out, I think we ran 10 laps that first run out. I could feel the grip going away so it was certainly in the back of my mind that I wondered what the wear was like because the first run out is always the heaviest wear at any track we go to, but especially here. We came in and they looked brand new so at that time we confirmed everything we need to just go tune on the car."
HOW IMPORTANT WAS IT TO GET ALL THAT BEHIND EVERYBODY TODAY? "I think it was very important. I think you can do all the testing in the world and say all the positive things you want after those results of the test but until you get here with this group of media and all the competitors on the track and see how everybody's cars are reacting to it, I think that is when it really counts and matters from what I hear, across the board all the way up and down the garage, that everybody felt good about it."
