Crew Chief for No. 15 Team Comments on Tire Situation

Doug Randolph, Crew Chief of the No. 15 Dale Earnhardt Inc. / Menards Chevrolet reflects on this weekend's tire issues: "In the history of Cup racing here at IMS, the tire situation usually gets progressively better," Randolph said. "But I don't think anyone went more than 10 laps on a set of tires yesterday and that's not good. In the first practice, our team could go about six to nine laps before we started to see cords. The second practice was about the same, definitely wasn't any better. Our right rear was the worst, so Paul was fighting a very loose condition."

Making the situation worse for the No. 15 Menards team is the fact that tire specialist Jeff "The Jet" Zarella is not in attendance for this weekend's event. In Zarella's absence, the other members of the Menards team are stepping up to help ease the tire issues felt by the entire NASCAR Sprint Cup garage.

"As a team, we need to have all hands on deck today," Randolph continued. "It may become more important to have our over the wall crew helping run and roll tires than fueling the car, so we're going to be operating on full alert today."
