HAS ANYTHING CHANGED WITH YOU SINCE YOUR WIN AT CALIFORNIA?
No, nothing has really changed since our victory earlier this year. We had a strong run at California, but we've also had a few strong runs throughout the year. We've had our ups and downs and definitely had one of those rookie seasons. But as far as everything else that's gone on this past week, I just want to reflect one second on that from last weekend.
I made a mistake and I realize that. Everything that was said was on a high emotion time. All the speculation and everything else, it was just a bad time for me. Who ever would have thought it would play out that way that Kyle Busch would have won the race. It was kind of weird. But I just want to say that I enjoy this sport and I want to have a long racing career. And I want to have a bright one too. I'm just looking forward to many more successes down the road. Hopefully, next year I can come in here a lot more and talk with you folks. So it's a pleasure to be here week in and week out. And I know I have an opportunity of a lifetime here, so I don't want to screw it up any.
RICKY RUDD HAS NOT MISSED A RACE IN 25 YEARS. CAN YOU EVEN PICTURE THAT?
Ricky Rudd has had an awesome career and I applaud everything he has been able to do throughout his racing career. I look up to him a lot -- as well as any other race car driver out there (like) Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, and Sterling Marlin. All of them have just been so great for this sport. For as many streaks that he (Rudd) has set and as many things as he's broken it... It would be great to see him in his final race here in a full time ride. I know he's taking a break, but it would be awesome to see him run really strong in tomorrow's race. That would mean a lot not only to me, but to all his fans and himself.
I'm looking forward to that day and I'm hoping I can make it that long. Just for Ricky to have the streaks he's had before I was even born is pretty wild to see 787-something starts in a row. It's great to be able to have my last race in my rookie season with Ricky's.
ON SUNDAY, WHEN YOU GET NEAR ONE OF THE DRIVERS IN THE CHASE, DO YOU GIVE THEM A LITTLE MORE ROOM?
You try to race them as clean as you possibly can every lap at any other race -- from Daytona to Homestead. I don't think the racing is going to be any different tomorrow. We're still going to see a great show. It's going to definitely be a dramatic one with everything happening. I'm cheering for the No. 48, of course. But I think it's still going to be an exciting race.
