JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S MONTE CARLO SS ON POLE FOR CHASE FINALE AT HOMESTEAD

Homestead, FL - Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Monte Carlo SS, will lead the field of 43-starters to the green flag of the Chase for the Nextel Cup finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The final pole of the season is another historic benchmark for the Monte Carlo SS. With more wins than any other Chevrolet model, the legendary nameplate will pace the field for the final time in the Ford 400 on Sunday. In 2008, Team Chevy drivers will begin full-time competition in the Impala SS.

This is the fourth Bud Pole of the season and 13th No. 1 starting spot of the defending NASCAR Nextel Cup Series (NNCS) champion's career.

A total of 18 Monte Carlo SS drivers will start the race, including four in the top-five.

Mark Martin, No. 01 U.S. Army Monte Carlo SS, qualified sixth for the 267-lap/400.5-mile race. Kevin Harvick, No.29 Shell-Pennzoil Monte Carlo SS, will roll off eighth and Jeff Burton, No. 31 AT & T Monte Carlo SS, will start ninth.

The Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. EST with live coverage on ABC TV.
