TERRY LABONTE, NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "We picked up a little bit. Our car was really loose in practice and we've been trying to get it tightened up. We got a little bit better, but there's still a lot left if we can get it right. So we just have to work on it and get it ready to race."
STEVE PARK, NO. 1 PENNZOIL CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "We're really satisfied with that. We ran the same time we did in practice. But the race fans need to know it's hotter out here right now. So just to back up how we did in practice, was good. This whole Pennzoil team did a great job from where we started to where we ended up, we made a lot of gain. We've got to crawl before we walk, and right now we're crawling really fast."
ROBBY GORDON, NO. 31 CINGULAR WIRELESS CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "We've struggled all weekend long so far just putting power down. It's been very loose coming off the corners and we haven't been able to hardly touch the throttle at all. I'm disappointed for the Cingular Wireless team. But, maybe that's a good sign. Normally we get tight when we untape it, so maybe we'll get good in the race."
JEFF GREEN, NO. 30 AOL CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "As much as we gained yesterday is as much as we've gained today with this heat. This Miami sun wears it out a little bit. So we don't have a lot of grip. It's not real good. I'm not too happy with that. There's a lot of guys who will run slower too. We've just got to be better."
DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 8 BUDWEISER CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "I'm real proud of this team. Tony (Eury) Sr. and Tony Jr. did a great job in practice today to get the car dialed in. That's why the car runs so good. There's a good handle on the car. It's the same car we ran last week (in Phoenix) and we felt so good about it that we brought it here. Hopefully it'll turn out and get us a win.
"The set-ups are real, real similar. And the car drives so good, we figured we might as well bring it. I think we've made a good choice. The car was real good in practice and real good in my qualifying lap. I got a little loose down in (turns) three and four and it cost me a little bit. But that was a good lap. I'm pretty happy. We're all working real good together and it seems to be paying off. There's a lot of hard work going into getting the car dialed in. And me and Tony Jr. and Tony Sr. have been getting our heads together and trying to get something good. And it's really working out. This last half of the season has been real good for us. This car ran last week and it was about this good in qualifying. It's just about the same set-up so hopefully we'll run up front."
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "We've made some great adjustments. In practice it was really hard to find how to make the exits tighten up and not affect the car anywhere else. You spend almost 50 percent of the time in the corners here. Chad (Knaus, crew chief) made some great calls on the car, and hopefully we'll have a good starting spot here. It looks like the weather is going to cool down and the times are going to pick up. But we're starting strong so far with the Lowe's Monte Carlo and we'll have a good day on Sunday."
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 GM GOODWRENCH CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "We're just loose. It's just one of those deals on qualifying today, but hopefully we'll be good on Sunday."
JOE NEMECHEK, NO. 25 UAW/DELPHI CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO: "That was a good lap. It was a little bit quicker than in practice. I've got to thank all these guys on the UAW/Delphi Chevy team. They've been working real hard and giving me some excellent race cars here at the end of the year and we're just trying to show it. I got a little bit loose - just like everybody - on exit, and gave up a little bit of time there. I couldn't quite get the power down when I wanted to and it was just trying to spin the back tires. But we've got a killer engine this week and we're starting up front."
ON SIGNING WITH HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS FOR 2003: "Yeah, we got all that taken care of this week on Wednesday and got all signed up. Peter (Sospenzo, crew chief) is on board. We've got a really good group of guys there and some great sponsors. We're just getting things turned around right now and next year is going to be a awesome year."
