HAAS CNC RACING ANNOUNCES NEW COMPETITION DIRECTOR

CONCORD, N.C. -- Haas CNC Racing announced today that Matt Borland has been hired as the team's Director of Competition. Team General Manager Joe Custer made the official announcement in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Garage at Lowes Motor Speedway.

"Haas Racing was founded with a commitment to building the team with quality people," Custer said. "Bringing Matt Borland on board as our Director of Competition is a strengthening of that commitment. Matt's knowledge and leadership ability are proven by his many successes," he said. "We are extremely pleased to have someone of Matt's caliber oversee our operation."

Borland, a native of Haslett, Mich., comes to Haas Racing boasting a record that includes 12 wins and 37 pole-position qualifying runs as a crew chief in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series as well as one win and six pole-positions as a crew chief in the NASCAR Busch Series.

At the conclusion of the 2002 season Borland was named NASCAR Nextel Cup "Crew Chief of the Year" as he led Penske Racing South driver Ryan Newman to the "Raybestos Rookie of the Year" award.

Most recently Borland served as a crew chief for Michael Waltrip Racing.
