Jeff Gordon was able to accomplish something Sunday few drivers have ever done.
Fresh off his record-setting fifth Brickyard 400 victory, Jeff Gordon went into Pocono with aspirations to go back-to-back. The 90-time race winner failed to secure his 91st on the eve of his 43rd birthday, but he did accomplish something else.
Jeff Gordon reached an incredible and somewhat symbolic milestone leading his 24,000th lap at the Cup level during Sunday's race. He becomes just the sixth driver in the 65 year history of the sport to achieve such a feat.
He joins fellow legends Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, and Cale Yarborough on this exclusive list. As the current championship leader, Gordon is on pace to have his best season since 2007 when he lost the title to teammate Jimmie Johnson.
