Goodyear conducted a successful confirmation test at Richmond International Raceway on Tuesday in preparation for the Sprint Cup race on April 24.
Hometown favorite Denny Hamlin, who has two victories at the 0.75-mile track, participated in the test along with Joey Logano, Danica Patrick and Greg Biffle.
For Biffle, it was his first trip to Richmond with his new crew chief Brian Pattie. The pair is looking to jumpstart the season after a slow start which was compounded by an engine failure (valve spring) in his last start at Auto Club Speedway on March 20.
Biffle was encouraged by the softer tire Goodyear selected — and the performance of his No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford.
“We had a really great test at Richmond,” Biffle said. “I think the new tire that Goodyear has, is going to work out well. It has fall off, slows down.
"But the most important thing for us at the 16 team is we had pretty good speed and drivablity compared to the 11 (Hamlin) which is very good at Richmond — and the 22 car (Logano) which has been very fast.”
Logano won the spring Richmond race in 2014.
Goodyear’s next test is scheduled for April 19 and 20 at Pocono Raceway.
