Barney Visser's one-car operation has decided not to join the RTA at this time.
The Race Team Alliance doubled in size yesterday, encasing 37 of the full-time Sprint Cup teams. There is one notable operation deciding against joining the RTA however. Furniture Row Racing, headed by Barney Visser, has not joined the newly formed Race Team Alliance.
Some believe it's due to their location. Most NASCAR teams have their headquarters in the Carolinas while FRR is based out of Denver, Colorado. They are a one-car team, but don't let that fool you. The No. 78 bunch produces strong cars and has a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing.
They made the Chase last year, coming within arm's reach of multiple victories. 2014 has been a bit of struggle and the team has yet to earn their first top five finish, compared to five at this point last year.
RTA Chairman Rob Kauffman spoke with USA Today, citing that Visser didn't feel it made sense for them to join at this time. He didn't elaborate much beyond that.
