Ernie Irvan very well may wind up in a second Andy Petree car in 1998 -- with Skoal as the sponsor. But, don't fret, Kenny Schrader fans. This rumor comes complete with a new (old) sponsor for Kenny -- Budweiser! (iRace, thanks to Susan for pointing it out)

NASCAR Busch Series kicked things off with Busch Pole Qualifying for the Food City 250. FINA Chevrolet driver Randy LaJoie streaked to the top starting spot with a time of 15.823 seconds, at 121.267 mph. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will start on the outside of the front row. (NASCAR Online)

Kenny Wallace, driver of the Square D Ford, drove to the Busch Pole Award for the Goody's 500 in a time of 15.595 seconds, and an average speed of 123.039 mph. It was the second top starting spot of the year for Wallace. (NASCAR Online)

Sources close to the situation confirmed that Bobby Hamilton will leave Petty Enterprises to drive for Morgan-McClure Motorsports next year. He will replace Sterling Marlin, who apparently is headed for Team Sabco as a replacement for Robby Gordon. Although rumors have Petty crew chief Robby Loomis also departing for Morgan McClure, that is not a certainty, according to sources (Winston Cup Scene, thanx to "racefan24")
