BRETT BODINE-11-Ralphs Supermarkets Taurus-
"We got underneath Kyle Petty and run underneath there for about a lap and we should've passed him down the front straightaway. I'm sure he just was trying to protect his position behind, wanted to get in behind me as quick as he could and he just must've just misjudged it, caught me in the right rear, just barely caught me in the right rear, and it turned me toward the outside wall. I kept it off the wall but ended up right in the middle of traffic, down in the middle of the race track and the rest of those guys had nowhere to go."
RICKY CRAVEN-32-Tide Taurus-
"I just got run into."
THAT YOU WERE RUNNING IN THE TOP 20 MAKE IT EVEN MORE FRUSTRATING?
ANDY HOUSTON-96-McDonald's Taurus-
"Ward Burton ran over me - again. He run over me at Martinsville, under caution, tore the whole side off this same race car. Tonight I passed him clean going down in the corner and, I mean, just flat runs in the back of me, I go to give it up and he hits me again, turns me head in into the outside wall. I don't know what his problem is, I never talked to the guy. I mean, I don't even really know him, but he has some sort of problem with me. This is a bad night for the McDonald's Ford. We had an awesome car, started 34th, got all the way up to, I think, 11th there at one point in time. The ignition box went out on the thing and I had to switch boxes, cost me a lot of spots and that's what got me back there. I can't say enough for this crew, for this Robert Yates motor. Everything was going great, just one guy with an attitude out there driving crazy."
RICKY RUDD-28-Texaco/Havoline Taurus-
"It didn't make any difference to us. I was running Rusty really hard on that last re-start, two re-starts ago, and tried to get by him, must've used up my front tires trying to get by him and I was just holding on after that. It would've been nice to come in and get four new tires, that yellow came out but we knew it was just going to be but a couple laps to the end. We were, I guess, probably ran a little bit too hard too early."
"I felt like we had the best car at the end of a short run with new tires. Usually we run good on old tires. Today we ran better on good, fresh tires, on the the re-start that was our strong suit, and the race came down to you stayed on the tires a long time. Usually, like I said, that's where we're good at. We missed it a little bit tonight. I'm not sure if I ran a little bit too hard trying to get by Rusty and burned the tires up."
MATT KENSETH-17-DeWalt Power Tools Taurus-
"We were decent all night, a lot better than we had been and we were a top-10 car all night and finished eighth, so that's a good run for us, a good boost for us and hopefully it will move us up in the points a little bit."
IT SEEMED LIKE YOU RAN A PATIENT RACE TONIGHT.
"Yeah, I tried to keep the tires on the car and try to be as smart as I could about things and try to make it to the end. I just tried to keep the car in one piece and try to stay out of trouble. I haven't very good at the short tracks before this and Martinsville, and I think a lot of that is just me being impatient and over-driving the car. We found a set-up we seem to like and tried to slow myself down a little bit and keep the tires on it until the end."
ROUSH RACING PUT ALL FOUR TEAMS IN THE TOP 20.
"I don't even know where everybody finished, but I guess everybody ran okay. I think Mark ran good most of the day and Jeff was running pretty good, so it was a good day for us."
KURT BUSCH-97-Sharpie Rubbermaid Taurus-
"It's a tough track. The short-track program, I've got to work on it, just seem to miss the handle on Bristol, Martinsville, Rockingham. Just got to pick up on the short tracks a little bit, just got to get that comfortable feel leaving the corner."
ON HIS NIGHT, MOVING FORWARD.
"Yeah, that's what we needed to do. That qualifying effort was poor and that's what put us a lap down. If we would've qualified top 15 like we needed to we could've stayed on the lead lap and had a better finish."
GOOD NIGHT FOR ROUSH RACING WITH FOUR TOP 20S?
"Oh yeah, that's for sure. I knew the team was going to start making the turn. We had big discussions this week. It's great to see everybody's working together."
JEFF BURTON-99-CITGO SUPERGARD Taurus-
"Fourteenth at Richmond is not what we need to do. We didn't run good all night. We weren't terrible, but we just weren't good. There at the end we finally got ourselves in position, with 100 to go, and something happened and we, I don't know what happened, something happened, and we went all the way to the back, and that's where we ended up."
WHAT ABOUT FOUR TOP 20S FOR ROUSH? IS THAT A POSITIVE?
"No. That's not the kind of nights that we need to have. If that's a positive night for us then we got a long year ahead of us, and I don't think that's the case. I certainly don't want to look at tonight as a positive. Matt had a decent finish, but beyond that, I don't think anybody should be happy with what we ended up with."
DALE JARRETT-88-UPS Taurus-
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END?
"We ran out of gas."
HAD THE RACE NOT STOPPED, WAS THE THINKING THAT YOU COULD'VE MADE IT THE LAST FEW LAPS?
"Well, we were planning on staying out, but it ran out of gas out there, so we weren't going to make it if it would've gone green. A miscalculation, I guess, on our part."
MARK MARTIN-6-Pfizer Taurus-
"It ran good for the first half and then I don't know what happened."
JIMMY SPENCER-26-Kmart Taurus-
"The motor didn't run real well off the corners and the brakes didn't work real well, and that really hurt us tonight. The brakes wouldn't slow the car down enough, I was over-driving it to try get it in the corner. It was a bad night. I just drove my [butt] off the first 30 to 40 laps and I realized that I was going to get in trouble, so I just decided to back off."
ON HIS START.
"We had a good car, we felt like we should've been in the front all night."
ELLIOTT SADLER-21-Motorcraft Taurus-
"It was just a tough way to end it. I just wanted to get all the positions I could and I spun out. I guess it could have been worse. At least we could drive on around. We'll just have to come back next time."
