Robinson looks to get freshman season back on track.
Charlotte, NC (April24, 2002) Shawna Robinson and the BAM Racing Team will attempt to revive Robinson's freshman season this weekend at the California Speedway. According to Robinson, she's been California dreamin' for two weeks now. "All I want to do is race and missing the race at Talladega last week was the most frustrating thing that's happened in my racing career," stated Robinson. "We are to the point in the schedule where I started last year so I believe we can turn this season around at California this weekend."
Will the race weekend in California add pressure to the first year driver from Des Moines, Iowa? According to Robinson it's no different from showing up and being ready to race each weekend. "When I show up at the track for the weekend it's all about racing. I focus 100% on giving the car and team everything I have for three straight days. Sure we want to get momentum back on our side this weekend. More importantly we just want to race like we know we are capable of racing."
Robinson's last outing at California was not pleasant. During her qualifying run she had a gear break, causing her not to make the race. "I like California because it's big and it's fast," stated Robinson. "It's really a one groove race track. In order to pass you have to have a strong run off the corners and drive under the car in front of you. I always look forward to racing at fast tracks and we're optimistic this weekend will be a good run for the BAM Racing Dodge."
Bud Pole qualifying for the race is Friday, April 26th at 3:05 p.m. (PST). The green flag will drop on the NAPA Auto Parts 500 on Sunday, April 28th at 12:00 p.m. (PST). FOX and MRN Radio will broadcast the event live as the action takes place.
