Morgan-McClure Motorsports, plagued with bad luck for the past several weeks, took another hit following qualifying on Friday at California Speedway. Although the No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo posted a speed of 37th quickest out of 46 cars, the team had to pack up the car and head towards Abingdon, Va., for the first time in 13 years. The team missed the NAPA Auto Parts 500 by 28 hundredths of a second.

The last time the team missed a race was 408 races ago at Richmond, Va., in 1988, with driver Rick Wilson. The team had to use provisional starting spots during the first part of the 2001 season, leaving them without a spot. Although a spot was gained in Martinsville, it had to be used to get into the race.

Larry McClure, owner of the No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo, quotes

"Disappointed? Without a doubt. We just missed the set-up. There is nothing else to say about this. We dug ourselves into a hole the first few races. We are paying the price for it now. I feel responsible for this mess. I feel like I made a wrong decision early and the results are showing.

"We cannot dwell on this. I feel like we have hit rock bottom and it is time to climb out of this hole fighting. The results of this weekend will not affect the singing of Kevin Lepage as our driver, from our standpoint. The contract is not signed yet, but we are close to signing a deal."

"We just talked to Kodak. They are not pleased, but they said they are here to take the good with the bad. They felt the glory of winning two Daytona 500's in a row and now they feel our pain of missing a race. I am pretty sure we have the best sponsor in the Winston Cup garage.

"Morgan-McClure Motorsports hopes every driver a safe race on Sunday. It will be strange not being at the track on Sunday."
