TEAM CHEVY IMPALA SS INSIDE THE GARAGE AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY-- ALBA COLON, GM RACING PROGRAM MANAGER, NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES:

"Our Chevy drivers and teams had a great showing during SpeedWeeks; and although we didn't win the rain-shortened Daytona 500, we won the pole position, a Gatorade Duel qualifying race, the Bud Shootout, and also the Nationwide race, which demonstrated the strength and depth of our Chevy Racing competitors for 2009. With Daytona being so much different than the other tracks, we are anxious to see how things shake out in Southern California. We are looking forward to a good weekend there, and hoping that we don't have weather issues like we did last spring with rain hampering practice as well as the race itself.

"We were strong at both Fontana races last year with Jimmie Johnson taking the pole each time and then scoring the win in the fall.

"But with no testing during the off-season, there are some unknowns going into this race. Auto Club Speedway is hard on engines, so this will be a good test to see how our engines are performing on the rugged two-mile track, and will also measure how we stack up against the other teams. In general, we made a lot of progress last year with the development of our new Impala SS races cars, and this weekend will indicate which teams have closed the gap even more."
