Keys to Success: Auto Club 500 -- Auto Club Speedway

FONTANA, Calif., (Feb. 21, 2009) -- Each race weekend, random Dodge Motorsports crew chiefs, drivers, engine specialists and team members give their insight on the 'keys to success' for the upcoming race. This week, the green flag drops at Auto Club Speedway for the Auto Club 500.

Trivia Question: Driving the No. 44 Valvoline Dodge Charger, AJ Allmendinger finished third at last weekend's Daytona 500, his career-best finish. When was the last time the No. 44 car reached Victory Lane in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event? (Answer below)

BILL PINK, (Head Engine Tuner, Richard Petty Motorsports) WHAT IS TH KEY TO BUILDING AN ENGINE FOR AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY? "The two-mile racetrack has long straight-aways and the engine spends a lot of time in the mid-range which can put pressure on the engine. Durability is a real factor at a racetrack like California. With the wide-open throttle you try to make as much power as you can while still keeping in mind that the car has to finish the race. It's a dry, low desert which is a plus, but one of the biggest things to remember is that when the cars are coming out of the corner, they need as much power as possible because they are coming out of a hole before they hit the straight-away."

Answer to Trivia Question: "Texas" Terry Labonte last took the No. 44 to Victory Lane in the 1986 Goodwrench 500 at North Carolina Motor Speedway (Rockingham). He edged runner-up Harry Gant by .068 seconds.
