Naval Squadron highlights NASCAR's 2010 West Coast Premiere
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Feb 19, 2010) -- The world-renowned "Blue Angels" -- the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron -- will provide race fans with an aerial spectacle immediately following the National Anthem at the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR -- the Auto Club 500 -- on Feb. 21 at Auto Club Speedway.
It is the first time the exclusive flying squadron will perform a flyover at the Speedway.
Reaching speeds of 400 mph, the Blue Angels flyover will feature six blue and gold Boeing F/A-18 Hornets; the Delta formation will then fly back to Naval Air Facility El Centro, Calif., where they are currently based for winter training.
The Blue Angels are scheduled to fly 68 air shows at 35 air show sites in the United States during the 2010 season, as the team celebrates 24 years of flying the F/A-18 Hornet. The Blue Angels perform for 10 million spectators each year. Since its inception in 1946, the Blue Angels have performed for more than 463 million fans.
With free admission for children 12 and under in effect for events on Friday and Saturday of race weekend, race fans can be a part of all the history when Danica Patrick makes her West Coast NASCAR debut in the Stater Bros. 300 NNS event on Saturday, Feb. 20 for as low as $30. Then come back for the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR -- the Auto Club 500 NSCS event on Sunday, Feb. 21, for as low as $35, to witness four-time consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson attempt his record breaking fifth win at Auto Club Speedway and the legendary Naval Blue Angels.
