First lap accident relegates Reutimann to a 37th place finish at Kansas Speedway

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (October 7, 2013) - David Reutimann and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 37th at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, October 6. A multi-car accident sent Reutimann to the garage on the first lap of the race, and he finally returned to the track after 110 laps of repairs. By the time the checkered flag waved, Reutimann had regained five positions to cross the finish line in the 37th position.

Entering the first turn on the first lap, Reutimann was engaged in a three-wide battle for position. When the No. 10 of Danica Patrick got loose in the middle groove, the driver tagged the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry and sent Reutimann up the track and into the outside retaining wall with the right side of his race car. With extensive damage to the right front suspension and right-side bodywork, Reutimann pulled his No. 83 Toyota Camry into the garage for repairs. After 110 laps, the BK Racing crew sent Reutimann back to the track with his repaired machine. Scored several laps down in the 42nd position, Reutimann made up as much ground as possible on other drivers that had since retired from the Hollywood Casino 400. By the time the checkered flag waved, Reutimann was scored in the 37th position.

"We had really high hopes for our No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team this weekend," commented Reutimann. "We had a solid starting spot, but unfortunately didn't even have a chance to compete with the other drivers. I'm very appreciative of all the hard work my BK Racing team did to repair our car and get us back on the track as quickly as possible. After all the repairs, my BK Racing team still put together a competitive car for us. While we weren't in a position to regain a lot of track position, we were able to pick up a few positions, and therefore, a few points."
