New Coca-Cola Racing Family Promotion Introduced for 2000 NASCAR Season

ATLANTA, Jan. 13, 2000 -- Coca-Cola and The Coca-Cola Racing Family will have race fans "seeing red" this NASCAR season with a national watch-and-win promotion that makes fans part of the action and allows them to win great prizes without ever leaving their living rooms - including trips to The Coca-Cola Racing Family Reunion and the chance to ride with their favorite drivers. The "Red Lap" Watch and Win promotion, a virtual race between the drivers from The Coca-Cola Racing Family, kicks off on March 15 and culminates during the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 28 on TBS. To play "Red Lap," race fans collect Coca-Cola Racing Family driver numbers from specially marked bottles and inside specially marked multi-packs of Coca-Cola classic and caffeine-free Coca-Cola classic. During a series of commercials to be aired during the Coca-Cola 600, The Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers will be shown competing in a simulated one-lap race during which their cars will "glow" red. The driver crossing the superimposed virtual start/finish line in the shortest amount of time becomes the "winning" driver number. Consumers then mail in "winning" driver numbers to be entered into a sweepstakes for the grand prize. The promotion will award nine grand prize trips for the winners and five friends or family members to The Coca-Cola Racing Family Reunion in Atlanta this November. In addition to weekend- long activities, each winner will have the opportunity to ride in a real stock car at speeds over 160 mph with a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family or receive driver merchandise such as car hoods, actual race tires or racing uniforms, as in the 1999 national promotion. The Coca-Cola Racing Family remains the cornerstone of Coca-Cola's involvement in NASCAR. Members include 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott, Jeff Burton, Kyle Petty, Ricky Rudd, Steve Park, Kenny Irwin and Tony Stewart. Other Coca-Cola Racing Family members include Ned and Jason Jarrett, Adam Petty, and 1998 and 1999 NASCAR Busch Series champion, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Over the past two years, members of The Coca-Cola Racing Family have been featured on commemorative 8-ounce bottles of Coca-Cola classic, a favorite of race fans and one of the most successful collectible series in the Company's history. In addition, drivers have been featured on vending machines, product packaging, point-of-purchase displays and signature NASCAR and Coca-Cola Racing Family-licensed merchandise. Some have even displayed their acting abilities on the big screen in a Coca-Cola pre-feature movie short titled "Screen Test." For race fans of all ages, Coca-Cola again is touring several popular NASCAR attractions that replicate on-track racing thrills for fans at events throughout the country. The Coca-Cola Wall of Speed is a state-of-the-art NASCAR driving simulator that gives fans a chance to test their driving skills in authentic, full-size NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing cars. Other interactive attractions include Coca-Cola Racing Family Simulators and The Coca-Cola Pit Boss. Coca-Cola classic signed on to become the Official Soft Drink of NASCAR beginning January 1, 1998. In that same year, the Company received the NASCAR Marketing Achievement Award in recognition of its significant contribution to building the sport of NASCAR and the Coca-Cola brand. The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners have been involved in NASCAR for more than 30 years. The company also is title sponsor of the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte and has relationships with some of the top racing facilities around the country.
