After much speculation, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has signed with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated Racing for another season. Earnhardt first drove for DEI, the company his father pioneered, in the NASCAR Busch Series, where he earned two championships in 1998 and 1999.

It had been rumored in recent months that Earnhardt might leave DEI due to a contract dispute. It was speculated that Earnhardt wanted a bigger piece of his winnings and fewer personal appearance obligations.

Eventually, though, Earnhardt Jr. and his stepmother Teresa reached a five-year agreement for him to remain as driver of the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet. The terms of the contract were not released.

The team currently is third in the drivers' standings with six races remaining, including Saturday night's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
