Brooklyn, MI--Dale Earnhardt Jr grabbed the Bud Pole Award for Sunday's 400 mile event at Michigan International Speedway. Earnhardt won the top spot in his No. 8 DEI Chevy with a high speed of 189.658mph.

Earnhardt also holds the track record on two mile track, which he set in 2000 with a speed of 191.149 mph.

Earnhardt's DEI teammates, Michael Waltrip in the 15 and Steve Park in the No. 1 car, also ran well and will join him in the top five. Waltrip and Park will start behind their teammate in row two in the third and fourth positions.

Filling out the top five will be the 29 and 31 cars out of the Richard Childress Racing stable. Kevin Harvick in the No. 29 Chevy will start alongside Earnhardt in row one while his RCR teammate Robby Gordon will start fifth in the No. 31.

With the top five starters being Chevrolets, the sixth and seventh spots were dominated by Evernham Motorsports Dodges driven by Bill Elliott and Jeremy Mayfield. The first Ford to line up will be the No. 88 of Robert Yates driver Dale Jarrett in eighth. Top rookie contender, Penske's Ryan Newman, also in a Ford, will roll off of the grid ninth.

Petty Enterprises' John Andretti and his No. 43 team showed strong grabbing the final spot in the top 10. Joe Gibbs Racing's Bobby Labonte was the highest qualifying effort for a Pontiac, he will start 11th.

Points leader Sterling Marlin who has been struggling as of late, will start his No. 40 Dodge in the 26th starting position.
