Gordon Qualifies 41st at the "Monster Mile"

Dover, Del. (June 2, 2006) -- With almost no time for adjustments due to a faulty fuel pump during the only practice of the day Friday, Robby Gordon and the No. 7 MAPEI/Menards Chevy made their qualifying attempt with fewer than four laps at speed during the hour-and-half practice. Qualifying with a lap of 24.078 seconds (149.514 mph) at Dover International Speedway, Gordon will start Sunday in the 41st position. While Gordon will be in Ensenada, Mexico defending his Baja 500 title Saturday, NASCAR Busch Series regular Paul Menard will substitute and help the No. 7 MAPEI/Menards' team prepare the car during Saturday's practice sessions.

"Our practice session Friday was terrible," Gordon said. "We had a fuel pickup problem from the start of practice and we spent almost the entire session diagnosing and fixing the problem, giving us no time to work on the car. The situation was pretty similar to last weekend in Charlotte, where we qualified a car with little to no laps in it. We came back last weekend in the 600 to a top-20 finish so I'm pretty confident that we can run well again this weekend. I've got total confidence in Paul (Menard) also. He'll get the car dialed in for us just like he did for us last year at Homestead when I had a conflict with the Baja 1000 during practice. We finished that race ninth from the back and I have every reason to believe we'll do that same thing again this week."
