Becomes seventh team to capture Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge victory

Ryan Newman's No. 12 team collected its first Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge win of the season in Monday's rain-delayed Nextel Cup event at Dover International Speedway.

The Alltel crew spent 234.014 seconds on pit road. The effort helped secure a runner-up finish for Newman in the Autism Speaks 400.

"Michael Nelson (crew chief) and the guys did an awesome job in the pits today," said Newman. "I don't think they could have done any better."

Nelson added, "The over-the-wall guys were awesome. They proved they're capable of being the Pit Crew Challenge Champions and showed that they can do their job on the track and not just at the all-star competition."

Newman's crew will be awarded an $11,000 prize by Checkers/Rally's for winning the weekly competition. An additional $111,150 will be presented to the pit crew with the most Double Drive-Thru Challenge wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.

The No. 12 crew, out of the Penske Racing stable, includes: Britt Goodrich (jackman), Scott Reiniger (front-tire carrier), Ben Brown (front-tire changer), Trent Cherry (rear-tire carrier), Joe Piette Jr. (rear-tire changer), George Whitley (gasman), Bryan White (catch can) and Michael Warren (eighth-man). Cherry and Bob Pressley are the pit crew coaches.

Thirteen races into the Nextel Cup season, Mark Martin's/Regan Smith's No. 01 pit crew leads the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge standings with four wins.

To win the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally's is in its third season as title sponsor for the pit crew challenge.
