Nemechek Ponders Dover Performance
DOVER, Del. (June 4, 2006) -- Joe Nemechek will probably not remember the result, but he will remember his performance in Sunday's Nextel Cup race. The U.S. Army driver finished 35th in the Neighborhood Excellence 400, contested at the Dover International Speedway's Monster Mile.
"It's not about the result, it's about the performance," offered Nemechek. "And today, we didn't a have a good performance. But that doesn't mean we're going to forget about it. You need to ask yourself why this happened and go over all of the data so you can avoid these kinds of performances in the future. As I keep on saying, we will soldier on. We're going to battle through this slump and get to where we need to be."
Nemechek started the 400-miler 13th and after a few laps he started to have handling issues.
"The car was mostly free and the 01 Army Chevrolet was a handful to drive," said Nemechek. "It seems like there's no middle ground for me at this track. I either run well or run poorly."
Nemechek and the Army team are hoping that next Sunday's Cup event at Pocono Raceway will be the race that gets the Army team back on track. Last year in the June race at Pocono, Nemechek finished third and ran up front for most of the 500-mile competition.
