Marlin Expects Excitement at Monster Mile

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 19, 2006)-- With the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup underway in NASCAR's premiere series, driver Sterling Marlin is expecting plenty of excitement in Sunday's Dover 400.

And while the 10 Chase contenders tiptoe around the one-mile oval, Marlin and the Waste Management team will be aggressively working toward a solid finish.

"You can expect plenty of excitement this weekend," said Marlin, who is starting his 42nd event at Dover. "The Monster Mile typically lives up to its billing and while there are 10 teams and drivers out there trying not to make a mistake, we're going to be aggressive and work on a top-10 or better finish."

Dover's one-mile, high-banked confines breed speed and close-quarters racing. Five of the last 10 NEXTEL Cup events there have been decided by less than a second, and it's that intensity that Marlin plans to use in his favor on Sunday.

"We saw it last weekend in New Hampshire," explained Marlin. "The guys who are in the Chase have a lot more to lose than those of us who aren't. No one wants to get caught up in an accident or put themselves in a bad situation, but we can take our Waste Management Chevrolet out there and be aggressive, take chances."

In Marlin's first visit to Dover this year, inconsistency plagued the No. 14 team. This time around, he hopes the Waste Management team will find a way to get to the front on Sunday.

"Dover isn't a forgiving track," Marlin continued. "There's a reason why they call it the Monster and a lot of people have to be conservative because of it. It's a rough place to drive and you have to have things figured out when the green flag drops. But I've always liked the track and am looking forward to seeing what we can do with it this weekend."
