Smith, Furniture Row Racing to Continue Preparatory Training

DENVER, Colo. (Sept. 22, 2010) -- For Furniture Row Racing and driver Regan Smith the remaining nine races are not about points or the team's standing position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

"What we're looking for right now is to continue our improvement and learn as much as we can in these homestretch races so we'll be better prepared for the 2011 season," said driver Regan Smith, who will celebrate his 27th birthday on Thursday, Sept. 23. "It's like being in a college preparatory school."

Smith added, "Many changes were made after the 2009 season and we entered the 2010 campaign with what felt like a new team. The new structure, new personnel and new philosophy are paying off as we've been making some pretty good gains lately with our No. 78 Chevrolet."

When asked about Furniture Row Racing's improved performance this season, Mark McArdle -- the team's managing director of competition - keeps things in check and says, "This is the first year of a three year project. There's plenty of work ahead of us, but we're on the right course."

Smith, who finished 19th last week in New Hampshire, is eyeing another top-20 or top-15 performance in Sunday's AAA 400 Cup race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.

"We're a better team than what we were the last time we raced at Dover in May," stated Smith. "There is no question that everything has improved with our Furniture Row Racing team, including the driver."

Sunday's race will be Smith's sixth career start at Dover's Monster Mile. He has scored three top-25 finishes in his previous races, including a 24th-place result in May.
