THAT'S A PRETTY SOLID LAP... "That's the biggest thing. We've been struggling the last few weeks qualifying. One of my own personal goals was to get this thing in the race solidly on time. We all want to sit on the pole. That's a wonderful thing. But, we at least backed up what we practiced and that is pretty decent right there.
"That's a great run for us. We're finally not 36th or 33rd or whatever we normally have been. We'll have a little bit of track position to start the race with. We know we can race well. We always seem to do that.
"We only had one provisional left. We couldn't use that up right now."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (22nd):
BASED ON PRACTICE TIMES, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'VE GOT A BETTER CAR THAN WHERE YOU QUALIFIED... "Absolutely. The Valvoline Pontiac is pretty good. It was just a little slippery during qualifying. We expected it would maybe be a little slick, so we tightened it up. We just didn't go far enough.
"But, I'm real happy with the car. I'm not worried about that qualifying spot, although I feel like we could have qualified a little bit better. But in the same token, I feel it will run that speed all day long, which is what I'm looking forward to."
TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (23rd):
"I felt like if we qualified in the 'mid-20s' I'd be happy and that's how it turned out. That's when we seem to race the best from here. I'm a little disappointed with my lap. It just seems like the track may have given up a little grip and we may have been a little aggressive on air pressures."
