Carpentier Geared Up for Second Race at Dover International Speedway
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Patrick Carpentier and the No. 10 Charter Dodge crew will roll into the Dover International Speedway this weekend hoping to improve on their 29th-place finish from earlier this year at the "Monster Mile"
Carpentier will be plenty busy as the Montreal native will run in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. Carpentier's goals in the final nine races are to put the Gillett Evernham Motorsports Dodge in the top-35 as well as climb to the top of the rookie standings.
"I'm excited to see what this Charter team can do in the last nine races," Carpentier said. "We would love to win Rookie of the Year honors but our main goal is to get the No. 10 back inside the top-35. We know it's a long shot but this team has made leaps and bounds from the beginning of the year. We just need to focus on getting the best finish we can each week and continue to remain optimistic."
"Dover is a very unique racetrack. It's similar to Bristol with the concrete surface and the various lines you can run but it has the speed of a superspeedway. You've got to be extremely focused and prepared for almost anything. Accidents not only happen really quickly but they are generally hard to see.
"We ran 29th in the spring and this team has come a long way since then. The Charter team had a rough week at Loudon but we're prepared to turn that around at Dover. There is only one track left on the schedule this year that we haven't run at [Kansas] so we're in a much different situation than we were at the beginning of the season. Hopefully we can use that to our advantage."
Chassis info: The No. 10 crew will bring chassis No. 254. It's the chassis that Carpentier drove previously in Michigan. The backup is 218.
Carpentier's Season: In 22 starts, has one pole, has led eight laps and earned four top-20 finishes. He has three top-five and five top-10 starts plus Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in six races. Carpentier remains as the only rookie to win a pole in the 2008 season. Additionally, he was the only rookie to ever win a pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
