Call It The Dover Blues For Nemechek

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 24, 2006) -- It was another one of those days for Joe Nemechek at Dover International Speedway.

The record clearly shows that the all-concrete track, known as the Monster Mile, has not been good to Nemechek in recent years, and Sunday's Nextel Cup race was not any different.

After qualifying fifth for the Dover 400, Nemechek fell back early and struggled for the remainder of the race. His U.S. Army Chevrolet took the checkered flag in 26th place.

Though Nemechek's result was actually better than his finishing average of 31st at Dover over the past five years and 10 races, it was not any consolation for the veteran driver.

"We just weren't in it today," said Nemechek. "We made many changes, but nothing worked. The car was tight and we just couldn't get untracked. It was disappointing because we started off the weekend with a strong qualifying effort. There's not much more to say. My thoughts are already on next week."

And speaking of next week, Nemechek will be going to a track that has given him much more love than the one he was leaving on Sunday. The Nextel Cup series will be at Kansas Speedway, where Nemechek swiped the double in 2004, winning both the Busch and Nextel Cup races.
