We're working hard with our teammates and Chad's had some great ideas and pulled some things together and a great, great race car. This is the best I've felt in happy hour in a long time.
DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A TOP-5 CAR? I think we have a top two car, to be honest with you. I was looking at the laps in the truck right now and everything overlays and in the end I feel like we were maybe the best car. The #6 is right there and then we've got a nice little cushion. I wish this stuff translated from happy hour to the race. It usually is close but not completely the same. I know I've got a good top 5 car and in the Chase that's all you need-top fives.
WHO WILL BE THE GUYS TO BEAT HERE? The #20, #17, #12, #97 and the #16, I think. I know that's a lot of cars but they all have had a lot of success here. They know how to race this race track well and I think it's going to be a good five or six-car shootout for the win.
HOW ABOUT YOUR TEAMMATES? I think that they're making good progress, too. Kyle was right there too and Brian and Jeff found some stuff late. They'll be in good shape, too.
RE: TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK; YOU NEVER FINISHED THE FALL RACE Gosh, I hope I can. It will be important to. The Fall race, for whatever reason, has given us some problems, usually mechanical problems and I know we'll work hard to not have that take place. But Talladega can go either way. It was be really big for somebody in the points or bad. So, hopefully for the Lowe's team is something really big.
IS TALLADEGA JUST A WILDCARD RACE? Yeah, without a doubt. So much can happen as we all know. You just kind of roll with it. Hopefully get through there with a straight race car.
AT TALLADEGA JEFF GORDON IS TYPICALLY UP FRONT AS A TEAMMATE. DO YOU HAVE A BACKUP PLAN IF HE'S NOT UP THERE NEXT WEEKEND? We haven't really had any discussions about it. You know, in the draft it's difficult to have your teammates work with you because somebody is going to be left out. Whoever is leading gets the benefits, whoever is pushing-especially the last guy in the group pushing-is going to be in trouble. To pull out and only have my teammate behind me, my teammate will help me make the pass but then he's hung out. So, it's really tough and I think over the years you just have to put yourself in a position where other cars have to follow you. As long as I do that all day long I'll be making the right moves and with the car up front.
RE: FINDING A DRAFTING PARTNER AT TALLADEGA I've always worked well with Jeff. Outside of my team, the #97 and I have worked well together. Really the last four years-every year that I've been in Cup. It's hard to count on him when you get to the end of the race but I know that we have the same thing on the line and we are probably viewing the race in the same manner.
ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT 8 OF YOU GUYS FINISHED IN THE TOP 10 LAST WEEKEND? THERE'S NOT A LOT OF WIGGLE ROOM IN THE POINTS No, there isn't. That's why I feel it's more about not losing the championship and not having crazy things happen to you. The #97 had a great car last week. The #10 slips up, gets into him and he's way behind. I don't think he's out of it by any means; I think everybody will have some type of trouble. It could be at Talladega, it could go all the way to the end. Everybody is going to have some kind of issue in the Chase.

It is good for a few laps. We've just got to keep it good for the long runs. So, a little bit off there. But not bad.

TELL US WHAT HAPPENED WITH YOUR ACCIDENT I just lost it off Turn 4. We were pretty dang tight. Before that we came in and made a small adjustment. I came off of 4 and got real loose. I don't know. I wish I knew because the car wasn't loose at all.
DID YOU PUT ANYTHING FROM THE OTHER CAR INTO YOUR BACKUP? We put all the shocks and all the springs out of the wrecked one. Not the motor, we're just going to go ahead and go to the back.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE EXCITEMENT OF THE FINISH LAST WEEK? It was awesome. To have two guys from open-wheeled racing swapping the lead like that-that's something you really don't see a lot of in our sport. Normally, the guy gets by a guy late in the race and it's the guy who goes on to win the race. So, to see us get by Ryan and have him not fall off the pace and have him get by and win the race. It wasn't what I wanted to see, but at the same time it's cool to see we have racing like that.
IT WAS A CLEAN RACE. AS THE PRESSURE INCREASES, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT AS FAR AS THE CLEANLINESS GOES ON THE RACE TRACK? I think it will be just like that. Ryan could have easily gone right in there and really hit me hard and ran me up the hill and he didn't do that. I didn't do that when I ran by him and he didn't do that when he ran by me. I think if I would have done that to him, he would have done the same thing when he went by me. It's just the respect we have for each other. He did a great job. In there with two to go, most guys would have done anything they could do to get by. He got under there, he didn't just run me straight up the hill. He ran me up a little bit but nothing that was not in the competitive nature of the sport. He did everything right and I respect him a lot for that. A lot of guys would have just taken us out of the event with two to go. So I respect him a lot for that. I think the guys in the top 10, I think you're going to see them race like that. We've all got a great respect for each other in the top 10 here. You see thing like what happened and the guys outside the top 10 and those are the guys we really have to worry about.
IS WHAT WE SAW LAST WEEKEND WITH YOU AND RYAN NEWMAN A SNAPSHOT OF THE CHASE AND WHAT IS TO COME? If I had a crystal ball I could tell you that. That was just one week. Each week it's going to be a different scenario of guys that are going to be up there that are racing for the win. So, week 1 was still week 1 but we've got nine more weeks of exciting racing and knowing that the guys in the top 10 are the guys you're going to be watching each week. It was Ryan and I last week but it could be two totally different guys. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
HOW DO YOU PREDICT THIS RACE? We don't. We don't worry about it. Everybody wants us to predict and this and that. We work on how to make our race cars go fast. That's your guys job to predict. That's an answer that you're going to have to come up with.
