"We commend NASCAR for undertaking this investigation and for their efforts to study safety improvements in the sport," said Tim Culbertson, program manager, Dodge NASCAR Winston Cup Engineering.

"Improvements in the safety of auto racing will not come overnight. The work done by NASCAR and its two experts will be helpful in developing solutions that address car design, driver restraints and racetrack design. We, along with the other manufacturers, are working with NASCAR to study the issues at hand and jointly develop solutions that could improve safety of the cars and drivers. Any measure that improves safety is a step in the right direction. By working together and applying the research and resources from passenger vehicle safety programs, we feel we can make great contributions to the design and development of race cars. The work being done today will help make auto racing safer for its participants for years to come."
