Robby Gordon #13 Duracell Ultra/Turtle Wax/Team Woody Ford Taurus Team Gordon Qualifying Notes/Quotes Saturday, February 12, 2000 DAYTONA 500 - Round 1 of 34 in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Daytona International Speedway - Daytona Beach, FL
After running primarily in the 48-second range throughout practice for today's qualifying, Robby Gordon put together a lap of 47.896 seconds for an average speed of 187.906mph around Daytona's 2.5 mile Super Speedway, placing him 31st amongst the 58 qualifiers.
ROBBY GORDON "I'm not exactly sure what brought us down into the 47's. This morning we actually lost time, so I wasn't too optimistic about qualifying. We made some small changes thinking they might gain us a tenth or so, but I really didn't imagine we pull a 47.8.
"I went out and ran the high line for the first two laps, then pulled it in for the last timed lap. This doesn't set the world on fire, but it does put us in a decent position for making the show. Now if we can make it through the 125 on Thursday and keep out of trouble we'll be fine.
"I do want to thank the guys. I know everyone says this, but we've been working so hard lately to get to this race. It's been tense and there have been some long nights, I'm proud of them for sticking to it and giving me a good car when it counted. It's a good group here."
MIKE HELD (Co-owner) "We have 34 races of this type of pressure cooker. By the end of this season I'm going to be totally gray! I don't think I've ever been as nervous as I was today when Robby rolled out. It was so important for us to have a good showing today and I think we did. Now we need to rally around Robby and make sure he has a good race in the 125's."
STEVE ABRAHAMS (Hospitality Advisor) "Everyone was looking for more speed so I decided to at least make the car look better for qualifying by giving it a quick Turtle Waxing with the Express Shine. We picked up a few tenths and nobody is sure where it came from, so I've decided to take the credit. That's all. Whatever I can do to help."
