Bowyer Leads Laps, Finishes Ninth in Budweiser Shootout
In a wild season opener under the lights at Daytona International Speedway, Clint Bowyer and the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet team led twice for four laps and finished ninth in last night's Budweiser Shootout. Starting from the seventh position, Bowyer found himself in the lead by lap three before eventually getting shuffled back as far as 18th after losing the draft. Before the mandatory 10 minute-break at lap 25, Bowyer was back in the top 10 and happy with the overall handling of the car.
After returning to the track with four fresh tires and fuel, the Emporia, Kan., native pushed his way to the front of the field, joining Richard Childress Racing stablemates Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton. Bowyer and Burton then worked together for the remainder of the 75-lap event with Bowyer pushing Burton to the lead. In the closing laps, both drivers bounced around inside the top 10 before being shuffled back as the checkered flag flew with Bowyer brought home a solid ninth-place finish.
