DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ¯ (Nov. 21, 2002) -- In the season's final Bud Pole qualifying session last Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 97 Rubbermaid/Sharpie Ford for Roush Racing, captured the pole for the Ford 400 and secured a spot in next year's nighttime running of the Budweiser Shootout.

Last Sunday, Busch followed up his pole with a victory in the Ford 400.

"I can't wait for 2003 to begin," Busch said. "Now we're in the Budweiser Shootout and that's a race where you get a lot of homework out of the way quickly. It's a very prestigious group of drivers, I'm glad to be part of it."

Busch's fast lap of 154.365 mph earned him his second career Bud Pole and his second berth in the Budweiser Shootout. Busch earned his first Bud Pole at Darlington Raceway in September 2001, 46 races ago.

The Budweiser Shootout is a non-points All-Star race that kicks off the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. The 70-lap race will feature the 2002 Bud Pole winners along with past champions of the Budweiser Shootout.

The field for the Budweiser Shootout is now finalized at 19 drivers. Included in the who's who of NASCAR stars are Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Ryan Newman, Ward Burton, Matt Kenseth, Ricky Craven, Ricky Rudd, Kevin Harvick, Mark Martin, Geoffrey Bodine, Ken Schrader, Todd Bodine and Terry Labonte.

Joining the Budweiser Shootout on Feb. 8 will be the Advance Discout Auto Parts 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series, which will hold its 200-mile season opener prior to the Budweiser Shootout.
